For tickets and information visit: http://www.osfashland.org/HowToCatchCreation Playwright Christina Anderson and director Nataki Garrett—OSF’s incoming artistic director—explore life’s connections and reverberations, sometimes decades in the making, in this contemporary play about legacy, life and love. Four artists in the Bay Area find their lives unexpectedly intertwined — with each other’s and with the life of a black queer feminist writer from the 1960s — in this story that challenges our definitions of love, family and what it means to create. In a recent interview with Booklist, Anderson explains why she wrote this play: “I feel Black women, specifically, have a history of being erased in terms of their literary contributions in America’s literature. In a lot of ways that’s true for women of color in general, so I think the most important part is to keep these women’s voices alive and active and circulating.”

This OSF American Revolutions commission by Pulitzer-winning playwright Paula Vogel returns home after acclaimed productions across the country, including a Tony-winning run on Broadway. Directed by Shana Cooper (Julius Caesar, The Unfortunates), this story reminds us of the joint power and legacy of culture, a heart-stirring affirmation of the impact of art in a time of chaos.

Fueled by guilt and paranoia, the new king and his wife embark on an increasingly bloody campaign to hold onto power. José Luis Valenzuela (Destiny of Desire) directs “the Scottish play,” in which the impulse to destroy rather than change grips the Macbeths, wreaking havoc on their minds and on everyone in their way. Renowned for making the epic feel operatic, Valenzuela’s intriguing and ritualistic take on Shakespeare’s evocative tragedy plumbs the depths of human psychology and the pitfalls of unchecked ambition and violence.
